Amazon Web Services (AWS), supported by Beta-I, developed the Clean Energy Accelerator 2.0, a unique mentorship and co-innovation opportunity for mature cleantech startups.

The AWS Clean Energy Accelerator is designed to encourage co-innovation and acceleration through energy partnerships. The goal of the program is to accelerate the energy startups today so that they can define and shape the clean energy industry of the future.

The AWS Clean Energy Accelerator is designed as a five-week virtual accelerator program, which supports cleantech startups through expert-led workshops, mentorship, and network access, in addition to helping the startups advance digitally, co-innovate with energy companies, and facilitate potential pilots in various clean energy applications.

During the five-week program the selected startups will receive support from business and technical experts, hands-on assistance with AWS, and expert guidance in developing clean energy solutions and this will go on until mid-May. The startups will also have the opportunity to engage with industry leaders to explore topics ranging from climate change, international regulatory law, capitalization strategies for strategic partnerships, managing mergers and acquisitions, working with the public sector, among others.

The five-week programme has three pillars of action: firstly the readiness pilot where there is alignment with energy customers; then learning with Amazon’s innovation culture and AWS resources; and thirdly building organisational and leadership capabilities.

The programme also has partners from the energy sector, including ENEL, ENI, Iberdrola, GALP, Siemens Gamesa and TotalEnergies.

The chosen finalists will receive technical, business, and go-to-market mentorship from AWS; and up to $100,000 each in AWS Promotional Credit through AWS Activate to kick-start their data and operations transformation in the cloud.

Selected startups work on subjects such as hydrogen to battery storage to carbon capture, bio engineering, smart grids, solar and wind energy, and others.

On June 2nd, all collaborations outcomes will be presented at the AWS Clean Energy Accelerator 2.0 Innovation Showcase in Lisbon, Portugal, bringing together partners, startups, and key stakeholders from the European energy and technology innovation ecosystem.
